Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism invited BIOLAN to participate in the training sessions about food safety and sanitary controls in fishery sector.

A training covering “Food safety in the fishery sector” and “Fishery products laboratory testing” was delivered to 30 inspector and laboratory analysts from 15 CARIFORUM countries last December 2016 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
 
The sessions were organized by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and food safety hazards, best practices in fish inspection, controls in aquaculture, traceability and modern approaches to laboratory testing and accreditation were the key areas covered.
 
BIOLAN presented in this forum its innovative and rapid testing equipment BIOFISH for histamine testing, assessing the safety of product ssuch as tunas. Practical work helped the participants to understand the role of rapid and field testing, to enable better decision-making on the safety of fishery products. As result, this new BIOLAN equipmentis being tested in the Fisheries Department of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as alternative to conventional methods.
 
Participants were drawn from Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Suriname, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. Representatives from the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA), based in Paramaribo, Suriname, also attended.
