Research and Development
Biolan is a R&D company that promotes research projects, development and innovation, taking as reference the biosensor for the wine sector, agrofood industry and health. BIOLANS R & D projects are supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Basque Government Industry Department, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, and the CDTI and European institutions
The developments in wich Biolan works for the next years are:
Enology Division

FERMENTABLES SUGARS BIOSENSOR
In the process of wine making, there are key moments which will determine the final product quality. One of these moments is the beginning and end of the alcoholic fermentation, when it is important to determine the sugar content and its gradual decline and the presence of residual sugar which will indicate that they have completed the process of fermentation.

HISTAMINES BIOSENSOR
All studies indicate that biogenic amines can become an important barrier to export in the near future and therefore a biosensor that is capable to determine quickly and accurately the level of biogenic amines in wine can become a useful tool for Authorities and for the wine industry

MINIATURIZATION BIOSENSORS
In order to facilitate our customers use and to make management easier, without losing the sense of reality, Biolan will develop a more ambitious technology that will enable the development of biosensors with different commercial applications in the field and Agrifood Health Sector.

LISTERIA
For 25 years, L. monocytogenes has become the most important pathogen transmitted by food. Today, listeriosis is considered by experts as an emerging disease for which methods of detection and removing a method, based on the immunosensor for rapid detection of Listeria which will be reliable and simple.

SALMONELLA
Salmonella is a particularly nasty type of bacteria and a prime suspect whenever there are cases of food poisoning. Salmonella is the second most common cause of food borne illness. It is responsible annually for millions of cases of food borne diseases.

BIOSENSOR FOR DIAGNOSIS OF DRY EYE
Biolan is addressing development of a diagnostic system for dry eyes transduction systems based on bio-catalytic and / or bio-affinity, through Biosensors. Dry eye is one of the main pathologies of the ocular surface, affecting 10-20% of the general population.
